Scholarship programme
Scholarship for lawyers, in particular from developing countries
and countries engaged in the transition to market economy In
line with UNIDROIT’s legal co-operation activities, a scholarships programme
has been developed with a view to facilitating access to research facilities
for top-level lawyers from developing countries or countries in economic
transition. A limited number of scholarships are available (two months’
average duration), largely funded by outside donors – mostly Governments
– who make generous contributions on a voluntary basis. The grants cover
part or all of the cost of living in Rome for the designated period.
Candidates are selected by the Scholarships Committee or by the Secretary-General
acting on its behalf. Selection criteria include the candidate’s level
of qualification, the nature of the candidate’s research project (with
preference given to subjects that fit in with the Organisation’s work
programme) and its potential for practical application in his/her country
of origin. A good working knowledge of English and/or French is indispensable.
